Folger close to podium on tragic weekend

The performance of German rider Jonas Folger, who was close to a podium spot in the fifth CEV Buckler 125cc round this past weekend, was overshadowed by the tragic death of Spaniard Ruben Torres in the Supersport race at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Although the day was understandably muted following the terrible news, the 125cc race was still a passionate affair, with Pol Espargaro clinching the title of Spanish Champion. Red Bull MotoGP Academy rider Folger was pipped to the post by Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher as they battled for a rostrum place.

Japonese rider Takaaki Nakagami was another rider from the youth scheme to place in the top ten at the Montmelo track, where Kev Coghlan could only manage 12th and saw his title hopes go up in smoke. Coghlan now trails Esteve Rabat in the standings by two points.

The Scot's team-mates Daniel Webb, Scott Redding and Isaac Viñales also scored points for the Red Bull MotoGP Academy at the Sunday race.
