Aoyama one step closer to 250cc pole

KTM rider Hiroshi Aoyama put himself on provisional pole for Sunday's 250cc race in Estoril after a delayed session, putting in a time of 1'42.282.

Early on, Aoyama had a scare when a metal grill on the kerb became exposed, with the Japanese rider keeping his bike upright despite making contact. After the red flag was show, there was a 15 minute wait before the eventual restart.

Jorge Lorenzo and Hector Barbera, fastest this morning, completed the top three with a Fortuna Aprilia one-two. Fourth fastest was Alex de Angelis, ahead of Cardion AB's Jakub Smrz.

Roberto Locatelli was ahead of the fastest Honda rider of the day, Humangest's Andrea Dovizioso. The latter today announced his continuation with his team for the 2007 season, backed by extra Honda development. Marco Simoncelli, Yuki Takahashi and Alex Espargaro rounded off the fastest ten of the day in the quarter litre category. GP de Portugal
