Bautista breaks records with Portugal win

Alvaro Bautista broke two more records in the 125cc class as a result of his victory in Portugal. His eighth triumph of the season makes him the rider with the most ever points in the lower cylinder class, and also the most podiums achieved by a rider in a single season. Bautista has only been off the rostrum on one occasion this season, when he suffered a mechanical problem in France.

His victory in Estoril from pole was unchallenged by any rider on the grid, as he took off on the brand new Spanish-themed Aprilia. Team-mate Hector Faubel was the closest to the 2006 World Champion in second, but had been embroiled in a battle with Mika Kallio, who confirmed the runner-up spot in the category for the second consecutive season.

Lukas Pesek, Julian Simon and Tomoyoshi Koyama completed the top six, ahead of Fabricio Lai, Gabor Talmacsi, Simone Corse and Sandro Cortese. Mattia Pasini suffered a crash whilst fighting amongst the frontrunners, and had to be assisted by his team as he limped through the garage.
