Bayliss happy to finish Ducati 990cc project

Troy Bayliss, who this weekend stands in for Sete Gibernau in Valencia, has spoken to motogp.com ahead about his one-off return to the World Championship. The Australian rider lines up alongside Loris Capirossi for Ducati's final 990cc race, book-ending the project which he started in the Italian factory's first ever premier class Grand Prix appearance.

"I received the call when I found out that Sete Gibernau had suffered an unfortunate injury, and I was happy to rejoin the team. It seems fitting, even though it came about through an injury. I still haven't got on the bike, but we'll see during practice and there is no pressure on me."

Although happy to return to MotoGP for the Spanish race, with the Ducati team that means "his whole life," Bayliss ruled out suggestions that he would be hankering for a permanent comeback to MotoGP.

"I'm happy where I am at the moment. Winning the World Superbike title was great for me, and I'll stay and defend that," concluded Bayliss, who also spoke about the next Australian to join Capirossi in Ducati colours, Casey Stoner.
