Success for Spanish Day Of Champions

Approximately 5,000 people gathered yesterday at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit to enjoy the Day Of Champions, a fundraising event organized by official MotoGP charity Riders For Health.

70,000 euros were raised by the event, which will go towards improving basic sanitation and motorcycle projects in various African countries. The biggest crowd gathered at the end of the day for the MotoGP auction, in which a number of riders donated items to be sold to the highest bidder. Dani Pedrosa, Colin Edwards, Toni Elias and Carlos Checa were joined by 125cc champion Alvaro Bautista to auction off their wares.

Pedrosa donated sunglasses, whilst Edwards' one-off stars and stripes boots, used recently at Laguna Seca by the American star, also attracted high bids. Elias and Pablo Nieto, who is usually reluctant to give up his helmet, put their head-protectors up for grabs. Although unable to race in Valencia, Sete Gibernau's entire set of leathers were a big crowd pleaser at Cheste.
