Hayden wins BMW M Award and takes lap with Michael Jordan

With the MotoGP World Championship's main prize still in the balance, Nicky Hayden took an early honour today to reward his incredible consistency in qualifying throughout the season. The American took the BMW M Award for 2006's best qualifier, based on average times in official sessions and in March's Official Test at Catalunya, despite only appearing on the front row four times this season. After his final qualifying session of the year at Valencia, Hayden ended the competition with a 6.935 second gap between himself and closest challenger Colin Edwards.

The Kentucky Kid was presented with his prize of a BMW Z4 M Coupé at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit today by BMW M President Prof. Ulrich Bruhnke and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, whilst NBA legend Michael Jordan took a lap of the track with Hayden in his new car.
