Gresini Honda sever ties with Michelin

The Gresini MotoGP team will be running with Bridgestone tyres in 2007, according to an official statement published by the outfit's collaborators of seven years Michelin.

Fausto Gresini moved to thank the French tyre factory for their work during their productive relationship, but pinpointed the need to change ahead of the 800cc era as the reason for his decision to sever ties with Michelin.

"After seven years competing with Michelin, it was difficult to make the decision to use another manufacturer for the coming season. However, sometimes you have to make a break to take on new challenges," explained the Team Manager.

"It has been seven years of strong collaboration and satisfaction, and I want to pay tribute to the work that we have done and that has helped bring us victories. Now we are faced with the challenge of the 800cc bikes and, whilst we will continue with Honda, we will be using a new tyre supplier."

The first test for the team with Bridgestone tyres will take place on Wednesday.
