Bradley Smith takes 2006 Rookie Of The Year honour

British rookie Bradley Smith has attracted a lot of attention this season, and has progression in the 125cc class has been followed closely by press both at home and abroad. The "15 year old Oxfordshire Schoolboy" as he is affectionately referred to by the media, was rewarded for his efforts this season with the 2006 Rookie Of The Year award this weekend at Valencia.

The Repsol Honda rider took 20 points in the lower cylinder class this season, after having graduated from the MotoGP Academy talent scheme in 2005. He held off a late challenge for the honour by Spanish Champion Pol Espargaro, and had a best result of eighth in Japan last month. Smith told motogp.com ahead of the race last weekend that Rookie Of The Year was a clear goal in a year where there was little expectation placed on his shoulders to do anything other than adapt to the World Championship.
