Elias eager to get onboard Honda RC212V

Although Toni Elias' stay with the Gresini Honda team has been extended into 2007, the Spaniard still has some important adaptations to make. A change in engine capacity from 990cc to 800cc is also accompanied by the team's move from Michelin to Bridgestone tyres, signaling the end of a seven year agreement.

Last week in Valencia, Elias had the chance to test out the new rubber, although he did so on the 2006 Honda RC211V. The winner of the Portuguese Grand Prix earlier this year will get his first ride onboard the 800cc prototype next week in Sepang, the scene of a three day test from November 15th.

"At least in the Valencia test I was able to ride behind the 800cc bikes and check how they were being ridden," commented Elias to motogp.com. "I can see that they are very fast cornering bikes, and although they don't have the same speed on the straight I am sure that soon they will be on a par with the 990cc machines. The Honda 800cc is one which riders such as myself or Dani Pedrosa can do well with."
