Day two in Sepang finishes with Suzuki on top

Suzuki continue to impress with their 800cc development, topping the timesheets on the second day of action in Sepang. John Hopkins was the fastest round the Malaysian track, with a 2'02.73 lap on the rapidly drying track. The Anglo-American even undertook a 20 lap race-pace simulation on the GSV-R. Team-mate Chris Vermeulen was just a tenth of a second slower, with both riders putting in around 60 laps over the course of the day. The Rizla Suzuki team were, like the majority of the teams, focusing on tyre and suspension work, also devoting time to their mapping system

After leading the way yesterday, Colin Edwards was third quickest on day two, although he was hindered by a small problem with his Yamaha bike. The team will possibly have a new chassis available tomorrow. World Champion Nicky Hayden was the fastest Honda rider on the 800cc R212V, just over a second slower than Hopkins. In addition to the Kentucky Kid's work with geometry and suspension, he also dedicated time to experimenting with different front tyre choices.

Olivier Jacque put in the fewest laps of the day, on his maiden outing onboard the 800cc Kawasaki Ninja.
