Edwards: "Yamaha haven't reinvented the wheel with 800cc bike"

Always able to give a calm and studied assessment, Colin Edwards spoke to motogp.com after a succesful test in Sepang, where he topped the timesheets on the opening day. It was the Texan Tornado's first ride on the 800cc bike, and he gave a detailed analysis after concluding the test.

"I'm happy. Yamaha did a great job and we learnt a lot from testing. To be honest, with the 800cc they haven't really re-invented the wheel, its pretty much the same bike. The problems we had last season are ones that we won't have in 2007, simply because of the drop in engine capacity. The torque that we had before is more docile now," explained the American.

Edwards tried out a new chassis on Friday and, although he rode fast, doesn't jumping to any conclusions.

"We tried out something new, which seemed to work well, but this is just one track. The big thing was to play with the new Michelins and confirm some stuff, which we did and the direction we're heading in seems to be a good one."

"There's no massive weight transfer on the 800cc, and if you are a smooth rider like I've always been, then you can get a good lap time."
