MotoGP teams head to Jerez for final test of 2006

A selection of MotoGP teams will be heading to Jerez next week for the final 800cc test of the year, before a testing ban is enforced until late January.

It will be the last opportunity this year for teams to try out the new machines with which they will compete in the 2007 MotoGP season, with some outfits already showing the strength of their development. Rizla Suzuki have currently led the way at the post-season tests at Valencia and Sepang, but other teams such as Ducati have already reached an advanced stage of development and always go strongly in tests.

Absentees at the test will include World Champion Nicky Hayden, who is facing possible surgery on his shoulder, and the French duo of Kawasaki's Olivier Jacque and Tech 3 Yamaha's Sylvain Guintoli. There will be a return to action for Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi, the former coming back from an arm operation and the latter having tried his hand at rally car racing.

It will be the first test of the 800cc era for Honda's Marco Melandri, Pramac d'antin riders Alex Hofmann and Alex Barros, and also Shinya Nakano's debut outing for Konica Minolta Honda.
