Davies hopeful of MotoGP chance

British rider Chaz Davies will get a chance to test the Ilmor X3 prototype today at the Jerez circuit, in Spain. The 19 year-old joined the Ilmor Suter Racing Team on Wednesday and is looking forward to his first MotoGP ride.

"On Tuesday, the team couldn't get much work done, so I'll have to wait a bit that they go through their testing schedule before I get a chance to ride, I just have to wait and see for now," Davies told motogp.com. "Fortunately the weather is nice today so hopefully my turn will come and I should be able to do a few laps today."

"I won't continue in the 250cc class, because now I'm way too tall for that kind of bike. I was considering a move to AMA Superbike as I got an interesting offer, but then came the possibility to test with Ilmor this week."

"They have a very sound project, Mario Illien and Eskil Suter are very clever guys and the bike seems very interesting. Racing for them would be very interesting." Davies also explained that he "could consider a test ride role, as it could be a good way to build up experience with the 800cc, but racing would obviously be better!"

On Tuesday, Ilmor owner Mario Illien explained to motogp.com that the team's 2007 line-up has yet to be confirmed and could be announced later this week, after the Jerez test. With Chaz Davies joining Andrew Pitt and Jeremy McWilliams in the Ilmor SRT garage, this test session may turn to a final shoot-out over 2007 rides.
