Pedrosa closes Jerez tests setting the fastest lap time

Dani Pedrosa was able to beat Valentino Rossi in the last session of the tests held at the Jerez circuit. With an impressive lap time of 1'39.910, he became the fastest rider of these last MotoGP tests of the year. The Spaniard thus ousted the Italian rider, who had been topping the time sheets on the two first test days, with a lap time 1'3 seconds quicker than the best race lap of the 2006 Spanish GP.

Rizla Suzuki continued their good performance, with Chris Vermeulen and John Hopkins on fifth and sixth place, following Marco Melandri who showed an excellent adaptation to the RC212V. Alex Barros was the fastest Ducati rider of the day.

The teams made use of every single minute until the very end of the session to gather as much information and data as possible before the winter test ban, during which the factories are going to start with the most intense evolution process working on their prototypes in order to have everything ready and in the best possible conditions for January.

The most significant news of the day was the crash of Ilmor test rider Jeremy McWilliams this afternoon, causing him multiple injuries. The Northern Irish rider suffered a fracture of the left femur and the right collarbone, in addition to serious injuries in the fingers of his left hand. McWilliams was quickly taken to the Jerez Hospital where he will undergo surgery on Monday.
