Melandri given the silent treatment after operation

Marco Melandri has been under the knife twice in recent weeks, the first time of course being an operation on his arm before the Jerez test. However, the Gresini Honda rider has also had to have a polyp removed from his vocal chords, a procedure that he underwent a few days ago at the San Paolo centre in Milan.

The Italian now starts his recovery under doctor's orders to remain totally silent for an entire week. After this period, he will have to participate in a number of sessions in order to "re-educate" himself to speak.

However, this second operation still allows Melandri to take part in the Bologna Motorshow, where he will be a competitor in a car race. The gutsy rider will use a magnetic board in order to speak with fans at the event.
