World Champion Nicky Hayden is enjoying a short break from MotoGP action over the test-ban period to rest and recuperate from shoulder surgery. The surprise injury, a result of his collision with team-mate Dani Pedrosa in Portugal and kept secret as he both raced at Valencia and took the 2006 World Title, was operated on last month as the final post-season test took place at Jerez.

The Kentucky Kid is spending Christmas back home in Owensboro, at the end of his most successful season in the World Championship. He will be celebrating the festive season with the rest of the Hayden family, training as much as his condition allows after the operation. The World Champion's reappearance will come at the first test of the year in Sepang, before which he heads to California to take advantage of weather more advantageous for his training regime.
