New Faces For 2007: Eugene Laverty

Of all the newcomers to the World Championship, Eugene Laverty seems to have the best guarantee of success. Coupled with the undeniable talent that brought him success in the British Superbike Championship, the Northern Irish rider can also count on the experience of 250cc legend Lucio Cecchinello as his guide. Rumours of Laverty's involvement with the project first came about in October, when he attended the Portuguese Grand Prix as a guest of the LCR Honda team. Talks continued, and soon after Laverty was confirmed as the satellite team's sole rider for 2007. An old-fashioned hard-on-the-gas rider, in the tradition of former British greats, Laverty is expected to be a strong addition to the 250cc grid.

In an interview with motogp.com at the tail end of last season, the newcomer emphasised that he was well aware that MotoGP was the "next level" of competition, a place where he had his mind set on entering and succeeding.

The 20 year old from Toombridge will make his debut appearance on the Honda in Jerez on January 23rd, when fans eager to see if this is the shining British hope for 250cc will have their chance to check Laverty's skills.
