New Faces In MotoGP: Sylvain Guintoli

Sylvain Guintoli is one third of the "French Resístance" in MotoGP, lining up in Herve Poncharal's Yamaha Tech 3 team to compete against countrymen Randy de Puniet and Olivier Jacque in the premier class.

Guintoli was a sensation on the national scene, starting out by becoming the youngest French champion in history back in 1995. In the following years he took the French 250cc title and third place in the European Championship, leading to his progression to the world stage. Although he has primarily featured in the 250cc category for Aprilia, he made a brief appearance in the 2002 Czech Grand Prix for Herve Poncharal's squadron and finished 17th.

The Frenchman's most successful year in the quarter litre category came in 2005, when he took tenth in the overall classification and the award for Best Privateer. Last season he joined up with the Yamaha MotoGP satellite team as the official test rider, leading to his recruitment as a main rider alongside Makoto Tamada in 2007.
