Trials and tribulations for Barbera

Hector Barbera has thrown himself into his pre-season training with typical gusto, aiming to start the year in peak physical condition.

The Spaniard, riding for Team Toth on a factory Aprilia this season, picked up a 2 stroke Gas Gas TXT Pro trial bike last week to get himself in shape during the winter break. The 70kg models are a familiar toy for Barbera, who was a keen trial competitor as a child and competes in the local "Dos Aguas" competition when his schedule permits.

Trial is useful training for a rider due to the strength and balance needed to maintain the bike on one wheel. It may be a better form of preparation for Barbera than mountain bike riding, bearing in mind the injury which set back his 2007 season suffered whilst practicing the sport in Valencia.
