Testing resumes on first day in Sepang

Today's first MotoGP session in Sepang signalled the start of the 2007 preseason, as part of a test set to last until Wednesday. Every team apart from Ilmor have headed to the Malaysian Circuit to continue the development of their 800cc bikes, all with the hope of arriving in Qatar for the first race of the season in peak condition.

Rizla Suzuki followed on from their impressive end to 2006 by once again leading the way on the new prototypes. World Champion Nicky Hayden also put in fast times on his return from shoulder surgery in November. The entire field have two bikes at their disposal for the first time, enabling more rigorous testing than ever at the Asian track.

Whilst all teams are adapting to the 800cc bikes, a number are also continuing to adjust to new tyre maufacturers, with Gresini Honda and Pramac d'Antin both having Bridgestone compounds at their disposal for some hard work. All teams are quick to emphasise that the aim of the first day is simply to put miles on the clock, before fine tuning in earnest later on.

Ever the entertainer, Valentino Rossi put fashion over comfort as he emerged for laps on the Factory Yamaha, defying the intense heat typical of Sepang by wearing a fetching pair of furry boots.
