Guintoli asseses first 800cc test

French rider Sylvain Guintoli made his 800cc debut at the Sepang Circuit this week, coming back from injury suffered whilst riding the 900cc Yamaha M1 at the end of last year. Guintoli was in the wars again whilst getting to grips with the new Tech 3 machine, and sat out yesterday's action after some light crashes on Monday and Tuesday.

The debutant's small excursions off-track are understandable, as he is the only rookie in this year's premier class line-up and has considerably less experience on the more powerful bikes. The latest addition to Herve Poncharal's team, racing alongside Makoto Tamada in 2007, gave his thoughts on his first 800cc outing to motogp.com.

"It's a big opportunity for me, and I feel at ease in the team. I already know them from last year when I tested the Yamaha and tyres. I still have to adjust my riding style to these bikes and adapt to MotoGP," commented Guintoli.

"I had some good lap times with the 990cc, so I'm pretty optimistic about doing a good job on the newer bikes," he concluded.
