Cecchinello emphasises importance of Checa

LCR Honda Manager Lucio Cecchinello put his bike in the capable hands of two experienced riders this week in Sepang, as his current rider Carlos Checa swapped places with Kenny Roberts Jr to help with development of the RC212V engine. In Checa, Cecchinello has a rider who has by now ridden for almost every factory in the paddock, and could be the ideal man to take the Honda satellite team forward this season.

Speaking after the Malaysian test, the Italian talked about the role Checa will play this season for the Monaco-based team.

"Having Carlos with us is very important. He's been around the paddock, working with different factories and tyre manufacturers, so he knows what works and it will be essential for us to listen to his feedback."

"Every year is a new challenge and, with the arrival of the 800cc era, this one will be even more so. I would say that Honda are really the only factory who have opted for a completely new prototype in comparison with what they used before."
