2-stroke classes test at Valencia

A large number of lower cylinder class teams tested at Valencia over the weekend, although very little work could be undertaken on account of the extreme cold in Spain over recent days.

It was not only temperatures which had an effect on the test, as heavy rain on Friday left the riders unable to take to the track on Saturday morning. Proceedings eventually got underway after midday, with Alex de Angelis clocking the fastest time in 250cc of 1'36.9 ahead of Jorge Lorenzo by a tenth of a second. Hector Barbera, fastest at Jerez last week, Mika Kallio, Roberto Locatelli and Alvaro Bautista completed the top six.

The Aspar Team, so dominant last season, had their duo of Sergio Gadea and Gabor Talmacsi both clocking a 1'40.4 lap shared by former Aspar rider Mattia Pasini. The Italian Toshiba Racing rider suffered an crash yesterday and was taken to hospital to be treated for a leg injury.

Many riders opted out of any testing yesterday, as a result of excessive cold only just rising above 0 degrees Celsius.
