Northern Ireland's Eugene Laverty finally makes his debut 250cc appearance next week, with the LCR Honda rider heading to Barcelona for a long-awaited test. Riding from the 8th to the 9th of February, Laverty is understandably excited about his big opportunity.

"I'm really looking forward to getting on the track. We weren't going to be testing at Montmelo originally, but when we made the decision not to ride at Jerez last week we got this test together. It has worked out for the best really, because I get to ride at Jerez for the Official Test anyway. This way I get to experience two different tracks."

The 20 year old has yet to see the 250cc Honda entrusted to him by Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello, but paid a visit to the workshop in San Marino over the winter. After the turn of the year, preparations have stepped up for Laverty, who has been training in his home gym and occasionally braving the freezing cold of the British Isles' outdoors.

"I know that the World Championship is a step up from Superbikes and the British Championships, so it makes sense that I should be better prepared as well. There's seventeen rounds and a lot of travelling, so you have to be in good shape."

Motogp.com will be covering Laverty's first test at the Circuit de Catalunya next week, after which the LCR Honda quarter litre team move to Valencia to test from February 12th.
