Few laps for debutant Laverty

Yesterday saw the long awaited debut of former British Superbike star Eugene Laverty on a 250cc bike, although he was only able to ride 15 laps of the Circuit de Catalunya on the quarter litre LCR Honda due to adverse weather conditions. Starting after midday at the Spanish track, Laverty was joined by Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello to go through some of the finer points of his first ride, and later undertook three laps in conditions more suited to a jet ski test.

Starting after midday at the Spanish track, Laverty was joined by Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello to go through some of the finer points of his first ride, and later undertook three laps in conditions more suited to a jet ski test.

Before his afternoon run-out, the Northern Irish rider spoke to motogp.com to give his thoughts on his maiden outing on the 2-stroke.

"It hasn't been the best of conditions to ride in, but at least I got the chance to meet my mechanics for the first time and find out the direction to go. It is definitely a lot different to the 600cc bike I used in superbike racing," said Laverty in the attached interview.
