Simon sweeps board on windy day in Valencia

The first of two days of testing at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia for the 2-stroke categories got underway today, with home rider Julian Simon fastest at the wind-swept Spanish track.

Simon, a debutant in the quarter litre class this season, clocked a lap of 1'37.2, ahead of team-mate Shuei Aoyama by just two tenths of a second.

One of the title favourites for 2007, Andrea Dovizioso, elected against riding today as a result of a 39 degree fever, and his playing any part in this test hangs in the balance. Team-mate Yuki Takahashi had his first ride on this season's Humangest Honda, having rode last year's bike on his return to testing at Montmelo.

Eugene Laverty underwent his second test on a 250cc bike, although he not continue testing tomorrow as the LCR Honda team head back to the workshop to carry out more development. His next appearance will be at the Official Test in Qatar.
