Weber: 'All Michelin Riders Will Have 16 Inch Fronts'

Results at tests in Sepang and Phillip Island were a positive development for tyre manufacturer Michelin, particularly regarding the new 16 inch fronts brought in for 2007.

Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi, three Michelin-shod riders, topped the timesheets at recent tests with the new smaller front tyre, leading Director Of Motorcycle Racing Jean-Philippe Weber to propose the change for all Michelin riders this season.

"The complete redesign of the front tyre gives our riders better handling, more confidence and better grip. All riders will switch to the 16 inch front this season. Now that the size and profiles have been confirmed, we will have to adapt the compounds during the next tests in Qatar and Jerez," stated Weber, before emphasising that the move came following requests from the riders.

"Tyre development is driven by comments from the riders and their feeling, and they all responded positively to the trials with the smaller tyres.

"On the rear end, we continue working hard on traction and edge grip, and we have noted that the difference between what we need in those areas for a 990cc and 800cc isn't as different as we thought."
