Metis Gilera yesterday held their team presentation in Milan, with riders Roberto Locatelli and Marco Simoncelli both in attendance at the event. The team are embarking on their seventh season in 250cc, with an all-Italian line-up of riders, bike and sponsors.

"We are doubling our presence in 250cc, and we want to make it clear that it being a completely Italian project is very important," stated Piaggio Group chief Giampero Sacchi. "Alongside Marco Simoncelli, we now have Roberto Locatelli in our ranks, and with his experience he is ideal as a contributor to our success in 2007."

Locatelli explicitly stated his intention for the season, that he is gunning for the title, and then highlighted the importance of his involvement in a factory team. "It is a dream, to feel part of a project and aware of the responsibility that this entails. I hope that I can give the team everything that they deserve as I embarke on this new adventure," commented the former 125cc World Champion.

Team-mate Marco Simoncelli starts his second full season in the quarter litre category, and expects a natural progression from 2006. "My debut year was a year for learning. We moved forward, but I admit that results like the expected podium finishes were lacking. Now I am convinced that I can do a good job, using the year of experience that I have under my belt."
