Gresini Honda's Marco Melandri had a somewhat indifferent Qatar test, on the pace but not troubling the blistering times set by Dani Pedrosa, John Hopkins or Valentino Rossi. Having seen factory rider Pedrosa take the RC212V round in 1'55.371, quicker than Casey Stoner's 990cc pole position at Losail last season, Melandri is hoping that Honda will pass a few of the new parts used by the Spaniard his way.

"I saw Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa's factory bike, and watching them they have taken a big step forward in improving the top speed. I hope that Gresini Honda, as a satellite team, can also receive some new parts for the first Grand Prix," commented the former 250cc World Champion to motogp.com
