Hopkins' presence at Jerez hangs in the balance

Rizla Suzuki rider John Hopkins will definitely be present at the MotoGP Official Test at Jerez this week, although whether he will play any part in the continued development of the GSV-R800 at the Spanish circuit is still unknown.

The Anglo-American has had the extent of his injuries, suffered in a 190+kph crash last week on the final day of testing in Qatar, assessed over the past few days by an orthapaedic specialist, and will undertake extensive work with Team Physio Dean Miller over the next few days. Hopkins suffered a fractured second toe on his right foot, damage to both his hands and widespread bruising after his fearsome highside last Thursday morning.

"John will rest and recuperate over the next few days, and will join up with the team this week. We don't know yet whether he will be fit to ride at Jerez, because the main aim of John, Suzuki and myself is that he arrives in Qatar for the first round of the season at 100%," commented Miller. "After being reevaluated on Friday back in the UK, we can confirm the toe fracture. A specialist in wrist and hand injuries was consulted, and x-rays for additional complications came back negative. Bumps, bruises and sprain/strain injuries to the soft tissue of the hands, wrists, arms and overall body are of some concern."

Rizla Suzuki join up with the rest of the MotoGP grid on Friday for the first of three days testing at Jerez, where they will be looking to conclude a positive preseason on a high note.
