Nakano aims to make final preparations in Jerez

As Shinya Nakano makes his final 2007 preparations with a new team, new tyres and new bike, he is looking forward to the conclusion of official preseason testing in Jerez this week.

Following his move from Kawasaki to Konica Minolta Honda, winter preparations for the forthcoming MotoGP season have been particularly crucial for Japanese rider Shinya Nakano.

As he makes his final preparations with a new team, new tyres and new bike, Nakano is looking forward to the conclusion of official preseason testing in Jerez this week.

With the start of the newly expanded 18-race season at Qatar's Losail circuit in Doha just over two weeks away, the 29 year old former 250cc World Championship runner-up explained: "It'll be vital to find a good combination of tyres to use for the first and second races, in particular we need to find a good rear tyre during this test. I do not feel 100% ready yet, so I know that I still have much to do and improve, but by the end of this test I hope that we'll be more than prepared for the first two races of the year."

Entering his tenth Grand Prix season, Nakano aims for his first ever premier class Grand Prix victory in 2007. The ex-Yamaha and Kawasaki rider will hope that three more days of testing his RC212V 800cc at the Circuito de Jerez will provide him with the data to achieve success at the same venue in the second round of the World Championship on 25th March.

He continued: "I'm happy at how the team and I have learned to work together over the last few months as good communication will be vital throughout the year. I like Jerez, it is a good technical track and in the past I have obtained good results there, so I love riding around there."

Meanwhile Nakano's Konica Minolta Honda team manager Gianluca Montiron contributed his views on what the team is looking for in Jerez, commenting: "The results and fastest lap-times of the winter tests aren't very important because nobody takes scores for the championship from this. I think Shinya has spent enough time with the package he has at his disposal, the new bike and tyres, to understand the characteristics of the new 800cc machine."

"I think he's also got to know how his new team works and we've learned a lot about him. Now we are at the final test and in Jerez we will be looking to find a good setting for the rear of the bike."
