A brand new BMW Z4 M Coupe awaits the quickest rider during the 40 minute MotoGP Official Practice which takes place later today in Jerez, shortly after 2pm local time.

As the Official MotoGP test comes to its conclusion in southern Spain, the riders will hit the track in a qualifying session simulation aiming for the fastest lap time on the new 800cc prototypes.

The preparation for the first crucial Grand Prix in Qatar on March 10th is almost complete, but today's event provides a chance for one rider to score a crucial psychological preseason victory and win the car - which is provided by BMW, an Official partner of MotoGP.

The Official Practice will be televised throughout the world and will be covered live in a video stream here on the MotoGP Official Website, as part of this season's motogp.com Live Video service.

Last year's edition of this event in a wet 40 minute session at the Circuit de Catalunya saw American Colin Edwards win a BMW Z4 M Roadster.

Additionally, the Official Practice session is of greater significance to the MotoGP riders as their best lap time today will be taken forward for the season long BMW M Award for best qualifier, which goes to the competitor with the lowest cumulative qualifying time after the 18 Grand Prix events of 2007.

Therefore, participation in today's event and every qualifying session this season is crucial for any rider who wants to have a chance of winning another BMW M in Valencia in November.

The 2006 BMW M Award winner over the season was unsurprisingly the super-consistent Nicky Hayden, who won the award with the biggest advantage seen in the four years since its inception on his way to his first MotoGP title.
