Campetella presents 2007 line-up

Campetella Racing officially presented its 250cc team to members of local and national press at an unveiling event in Montecassiano, southern Italy, on Friday evening.

Campetella Racing officially presented its 250cc team to members of local and national press at an unveiling event in Montecassiano, southern Italy, on Friday evening.

The team will run two standard Aprilia RS250 bikes in 2007, with Taro Sekiguchi continuing for his third year with the team while Italian rider Fabrizio Lai joins from the 125 class.

Team Owner Carlo Campetella stated: "First of all I'd like to thank the riders and wish them the best for this season. A big thank you goes to Adige as this year we've joined forces in a project to develop the standard bike. Our aim is to get a completely new machine by the end of the year, more competitive compared to non-factory bikes, maybe even managing to finish races within the top 10."

Former Japanese Champion Sekiguchi hopes for better luck this year after twice breaking a leg in crashes at the exact same Jerez corner in the 2005 pre-season and again in the opening round of 2006. The 31 year old had a difficult time last year and was only able to compete in the last six Grands Prix of the season. In addition he had to have corrective surgery on his leg before Christmas as it did not heal correctly after his second accident in Jerez.

Speaking at the team's launch, he commented: "In December I underwent surgery again so I'm still recovering. I think it will take me a few more months to get back in good form and regain equal strength on both legs. Then, for sure, I'll be the same old fighter again."

Lai, meanwhile, graduates from the to the quarter litre class this year having spent four full seasons in the 125 category. The 28 year old enthused: "I'm happy to be part of a team which I've always heard great things about. We've already done a few tests before the official IRTA ones in Jerez and straight from the start I found myself at ease both with the team and the bike. Of course, it will take me a bit more time to fully understand the new RS250 but I'm sure we can have a good season."

Campetella Racing also announced that Andrea Ballerini, who was part of the team last year, will be their official test rider.
