Checa gives Jerez assessment

Continuing his consistent run of preseason results over the winter, Carlos Checa finished the MotoGP Official Test in Jerez with the tenth fastest time, recording a 1´40.100 best lap in the special 40 minute time trial yesterday afternoon.

The LCR Honda rider worked right until the final minute of the test day, making final preparations for the new season on his RC212V. In the final session of free practice alone he completed 37 further laps, with a best lap of 1´41.195 also on qualifiers, the seventh fastest of that session.

His performance on qualifying compounds was one of the main points that the 34 year old rider focussed on in the last three Official Test days of preseason 2007.

"Today we mainly worked on tyres testing with Michelin. We got some improvements in the front end but it's not fixed yet. My pace on race tyres is pretty good but I still struggle on qualifiers", explained Checa at the end of the session.

The Spanish rider concluded his appraisal of his progress at Jerez adding a note of thanks to his LCR Honda team, whom he hopes will continue to help him developing his new bike, stating: "I feel satisfied because this time I upped my pace on qualifiers compared to the rest of the winter tests and this is positive. Now we must find a solution for the engine because I need more power especially on fast tracks such as Qatar, Istanbul and Shanghai. Honestly, we did a great job during the winter to adapt to this new machine, but I could go faster and I hope that Honda can help me as soon as possible."
