Capirossi hoping to ‘bridge' the gap with tyre improvement

Although he saw his 2006 pole time smashed by Valentino Rossi's BMW M-winning lap, Loris Capirossi's Jerez testing outing gave him reason to approach this season with confidence.

Although he saw his 2006 pole time smashed by Valentino Rossi's BMW M-winning lap, Loris Capirossi's Jerez testing outing gave him reason to approach this season with confidence. The Italian's Desmosedici GP7 had one of the fastest top speeds of any bike at the Spanish circuit, and Capirossi notes that collaborating further with Bridgestone should enable Ducati to make up the 1.5 second difference between their bikes and Valentino Rossi's Yamaha M1 in the ‘qualifying session'.

"We were somewhat behind with regards qualifying tyres at Jerez, but I'm sure that when we return for the race we will be very competitive. We have a very strong rhythm and we are closely matched with our rivals," commented the veteran to motogp.com.

Elaborating further on the subject of tyres, Capirossi also spoke about the new regulations which will affect both Bridgestone and Michelin early this season. "The new rules create a difficult situation, forcing us to decide on and adjust our tyre choice with no margin for error," he concluded.
