Eugene Laverty: ‘The 250cc is starting to feel like my bike now'

Having concluded his first 250cc preseason this week in Qatar, Eugene Laverty's quarter litre debut is drawing ever closer.

Having concluded his first 250cc preseason this week in Qatar, Eugene Laverty's quarter litre debut is drawing ever closer. The Northern Irish rider has had limited track time due to a late start to testing, but has the expert guidance of some familiar faces in the MotoGP paddock to help him with his adaptation.

Laverty was presented alongside two such names at the official LCR Honda unveiling last week, Carlos Checa and Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello, and he spoke to motogp.com about his latest feeling on the Honda kit bike.

"I'm beginning to get comfortable on the 250cc, it's really feeling like my bike now," proclaimed the 20 year old. "Through tips from Lucio, Carlos, Randy Mamola and my mechanic Paolo Cordioli I've really learnt a lot, which is good because I've had very little testing time."

Having tested at Losail and Jerez in the past fortnight, Laverty will at least have a familiar start to the season. "The first two rounds will be nice to bed myself in. I know both of the tracks through either testing or the Spanish Championship. It will be in China and Turkey where we will have to see a bit more."
