Four Aprilia riders occupied the first four positions on the timesheet in the first 250cc free practice session of 2007 at Losail, ahead of this weekend's season-opening Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar.

Alex de Angelis recorded the best time of the morning, with a 2'01.001 lap more than half a second quicker than the second fastest rider of the session Hector Barbera.

The reigning 250 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo was third on the timesheet just ahead of another Spanish world title holder Alvaro Bautista, who of course has been promoted to the quarter litre category this season after winning the 125 championship in 2006.

On his KTM 250 machinery, another newcomer to the class, Mika Kallio finished the session fifth quickest in front of Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli, while Kallio's team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama also featured amongst the fastest ten.

The Japanese KTM rider was the eighth fastest participant in the morning session with Thomas Luthi and Roberto Locatelli completing the top ten.
