The short turnaround from a crash at the Official Test at Jerez has left Julian Simon with precious little time to recover from a shoulder injury suffered in the incident. The 250cc rookie spoke to motogp.com yesterday after a group photo session, emphasising that his condition is far from what he would like it to be.

"I'm definitely not back to 100% yet," said Simon yesterday. "My shoulder still hurts, but I have to try my hardest and try to go well despite my injury." The Repsol Honda rookie has been helped by his new mechanics, who have specially modified his bike to avoid worsening his injuries and make his 250cc debut a slightly more comfortable affair. "There are some slight changes to my machine for this race; we've adapted the handlebars to avoid over-extension, and moved the fuel tank slightly to improve my riding position."

Simon will make his 250cc practice debut today at the Losail International Circuit, where the quarter litre riders will be on track from 11.15am local time.
