De Angelis takes 250cc initiative again

The second free practice session for the 250cc riders at the Commercialbank Grand Prix Of Qatar saw Alex de Angelis take the early initiative once again as the quickest rider of the session with a 2'00.461 lap of the Losail International circuit.

In yesterday's morning session Aspar's De Angelis was the man on the pace in the opening free practice, only for the Spanish trio of Hector Barbera, Jorge Lorenzo and Alvaro Bautista to leap above him on the timesheet in the afternoon's first qualifying run. De Angelis was hindered by a crowded track ahead of him at one stage in the session which may have hindered his quest for pole.

However, the three Spanish youngsters Barbera, Lorenzo and Bautista were again, in that order, just behind De Angelis in terms of quick laps this morning.

It would be something of a surprise to see anyone outside this quartet make the leap to grab pole position in this afternoon's second qualifying outing, especially given that in all sessions so far only one rider other than the aforementioned Aprilia foursome has been within a second of the fastest time of the session.

The only rider to have done that to date is Andrea Dovizioso, last year's World Championship runner-up to Lorenzo, who as this morning's fifth fastest participant lapped just 0.325 seconds behind De Angelis' pace setting best onboard his Humangest Racing 250 Honda.
