Hiroshi Aoyama will stay overnight today at the Institut Dexeus in Barcelona, where he was operated on yesterday for a finger injury suffered at Saturday's 250cc race in Qatar.

Dr. Xavier Mir was given the task of treating the Red Bull KTM rider's damaged fifth finger on his right hand, reconstructing the ruptured tendons and grafting skin from Aoyama himself to replace that lost in the crash on lap 2 at Losail.

According to an official statement from the hospital, the operation was carried out satisfactorily and the rider will remain under observation for 48 hours. Antibiotic treatment will be given to prevent any complications, due to the fact that the wound had been open.

After a disappointing start to the season, Aoyama will be back in race action at Jerez in under ten days time at Jerez.
