Dovizioso disappointed with Honda disadvantage

Outgunned by the Aprilia machines at the opening 250cc race of the season, Andrea Dovizioso is hoping that his Humangest Honda can take big strides forward before arriving at Jerez. The 2006 World Championship runner-up finished fifth in Qatar, the highest-placing Honda rider, although the Italian had been battling for a podium spot before the deterioration of his tyres.

"I did everything that I could to be up there with the frontrunners. Both Aprilia and Honda riders have the same problem of front-end feel and then we also have less acceleration compared to the Aprilias," explained Dovizioso. "As a result, I am always forced to ride at my absolute limit. Then I had the problem of my tyres going off and my times dropping, which is something I hope changes at Jerez."

For team-mate Yuki Takahashi, Qatar was a more positive experience. The Japanese rider was taking part in his first race since injuring his leg, and finished a respectable seventh to give himself a positive springboard for the 2007 season. "I'm very happy, even though I didn't get a good start. Having not liked the track before, I now think I understand Losail a lot better. I will try and improve even more ahead of the next race, and I'll be wanting to stay amongst the frontrunners," concluded Takahashi.
