Pedrosa sets new podium record

After a record breaking rookie season in MotoGP, Dani Pedrosa has already started 2007 by reaching a new milestone. The Spaniard's top three finish in Qatar makes him the youngest ever rider to reach the milestone of 50 podium finishes in Grand Prix racing, at 21 years and 162 days.

It is another record that the Repsol Honda rider has taken from rival Valentino Rossi, who had previously held the honour with his 2001 French Grand Prix podium performance aged 22 years and 193 days. Pedrosa last year broke the Italian's highest ever points total by a premier class debutant, his 215 points 6 more than Rossi's landmark.

Many have predicted that, at this momentous pace, Pedrosa will be challenging for the MotoGP title until the bitter end and, were he to achieve his ultimate goal of the World Championship, the former 125cc and 250cc champion would be the youngest to complete a historic triplet of titles.
