Despite a spectacular maiden victory at last week's race in Qatar, the jury appears to still be out on Casey Stoner's title credentials.

Despite a spectacular maiden victory at last week's race in Qatar, the jury appears to still be out on Casey Stoner's title credentials.

The Australian not only showed his own skills at Losail in the first race of the season, but also provided a perfect demonstration of the Ducati Desmosedici GP7's power. Leading the MotoGP World Championship for the first time, Stoner is in the driving seat heading to Jerez, although readers of motogp.com don't necessarily see things that way….

In the weekly survey carried out on the official website of the MotoGP World Championship, opinion was nearly split down the middle as to whether the Australian would emerge as a serious aspirant to the 800cc crown. After nearly 25,000 voters gave their opinion, just over half stated that they didn't see Stoner as one of the title favourites.

21 year old Stoner enjoyed great success as a result of the Qatari circuit's long straight, something that he will not be able to enjoy at Jerez next week. However, Ducati had a strong qualifying session at the track last year, and Loris Capirossi was the eventual race winner in 2006.
