Hayden continues faltering start to title defence

Nicky Hayden continued his stuttering start to his title defence on Sunday, finishing seventh at the Circuito de Jerez.

Nicky Hayden continued his stuttering start to his title defence on Sunday, finishing seventh at the Circuito de Jerez. The American lies 28 points behind championship rival Valentino Rossi after two races, and is well aware that the ‘The Doctor' is hard to stop in top form. Hayden admitted that Sunday's result was a disappointment, but will also be encouraged by his start from the grid and early riding until he began to suffer from tyre deterioration.

"I got a great start," said the ‘Kentucky Kid', who moved up to fourth from eleventh on the grid. "I was hanging in there but with ten laps to go my tyres went off and there was no way I could keep up the way I was riding."

Hayden now undertakes two days of testing at the scene of Sunday's race, looking to find some valuable solutions before heading to Turkey next month.
