Jorge Lorenzo, the winner of the 250cc race at Jerez for two consecutive years, once again celebrated victory in style after the chequered flag. Following on from his ‘Rocky'-inspired skipping after his win in Qatar two weeks ago, the reigning World Champion in the quarter-litre class this time planted a flag in the gravel trap to mark the Circuito de Jerez as ‘Lorenzo's Land'.

After a cheeky salute to his home crowd, the factory Aprilia rider set off a firework to begin the party for the Spanish fans. If his animated antics weren't enough indication of how much the victory meant to Lorenzo, he later described the triumph as "the greatest moment of my career so far, even better than winning here last year."

The 19 year-old has a perfect record of 50 points from the first two races, the same as at this point last year, but faces a test when he heads to the scene of a negative turnaround in his fortunes in 2006. Last year an early crash with Honda rider Shuhei Aoyama in Turkey kick-started a dip in form for Lorenzo, although he believes that he is both physically and mentally stronger this season.

"I think that we can pick up some good points in Turkey this year, we are approaching the race with a good attitude. I just hope that this time Aoyama is a little bit more alert."
