Debon could stand in for injured Locatelli in Turkey

Pencilled in for a series of wild card appearances this year, Alex Debon may have his involvement in the World Championship increased if he is asked by the Italian factory to stand in for Roberto Locatelli

Taking fifth at his first race of the 2007 season, Alex Debon was as always a solid performer on the 250cc Aprilia. Pencilled in for a series of wild card appearances this year, Debon may have his involvement in the World Championship increased if he is asked by the Italian factory to stand in for Roberto Locatelli, the Metis Gilera rider seriously injured in a practice crash on Saturday morning.

"I am still awaiting the decision of the Aprilia directors. One has to see how Roberto Locatelli feels in the days after his transferral to Italy, but all signs point to a long recovery period for him. I am going to continue concentrating on my more imminent plans, my ongoing role as sporting director to Jorge Lorenzo and Pol Espargaro, and I will work for three days at Mugello before travelling to Turkey to be alongside them. I will know in a few days if I will ride at Istanbul or not. In any case, the most important thing is that Roberto recovers as quickly as possible, and I wish him all the best."

Speaking about his performance at Jerez, the Spaniard was satisfied with the top six finish. "I think that we did a good job the whole weekend. I lost touch with the leading group after somebody crashed in front of me, but I think that fifth place isn't bad for my first race of the season."
