Experienced MotoGP rider Carlos Checa picked up his first points of the season at round two in Spain, after a stellar weekend in his homeland. The LCR Honda rider finished 6th at Jerez and qualified for the race on the front row for the first time since the 2005 Portuguese Grand Prix, a performance which impressed and pleased his new Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello in equal measures.

"At Jerez we did a very good job with both Carlos and Eugene (Laverty, LCR Honda's 250cc rookie), but we are looking forward to more improvement with the bike in Turkey," commented the Italian, who has good memories of last year's race and a first MotoGP podium for the Honda satellite team.

"Casey had an unbelievable race in 2006. Now we are looking for a different setup with the 800cc bike, but so far it seems that the Honda will be competitive there. I asked Carlos earlier ‘Do you like Turkey?' and he said yes, so I'm happy about that. The track seems to be laid out well, even the asphalt is in good condition."
