Mattia Pasini took provisional pole at Istanbul Park in the first 125cc qualifying practice this afternoon with a time of 2´05.739 on the 12th of his 13 laps.

The Italian Polaris World rider who finished fourth overall in the last two 125cc World Championships has had a frustrating season so far qualifying third in Qatar and first in Jerez and then failing to complete either race.

He already has 45 points to make up on the current World Championship leader, Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi, who himself was 0.238 second behind the Italian in this session - to secure provisional second on the grid.

Tomoyoshi Koyama notched the top speed of 225.5 km/h on his Red Bull KTM 125 machinery to finish the session third fastest, while the front row is for now completed by Skilled Racing Team's Simone Corsi - with the second qualifying session to take place tomorrow afternoon as is the norm.

On the provisional second row sit Valsir Seedorf Racing's Lukas Pesek, Bancaja Aspar's Sergio Gadea, Emmi Caffe Latte Aprilia's Sandro Cortese and WTR Team's Andrea Iannone.

The 9th fastest rider of the outing was Gadea's compatriot and team-mate Hector Faubel, who won he Turkish Grand Prix last year, meanwhile Englishman Bradley Smith, who topped the free practice timesheets this morning, completed the top ten.
