Pasini confirms Turkish 125cc pole

Mattia Pasini confirmed pole for the Grand Prix of Turkey at Istanbul Park this afternoon, as the fastest rider again in the second 125cc qualifying session.

Mattia Pasini confirmed pole for the Grand Prix of Turkey at Istanbul Park this afternoon, as the fastest rider again in the second 125cc qualifying session.

The Polaris World rider's potential is obvious having come fourth in the 125cc World Championship for the last two years consecutively and having qualified on pole for the last race in Jerez and third on the grid in Qatar. But the 21 year-old Italian from Rimini has not yet finished a race in 2007 having suffered from technical problems at Losail and more problems followed by a crash which forced him to retire in southern Spain.

Pasini's time of 2'04.722 today was a second quicker than he managed yesterday and enough to win pole again.

Second on the grid is Bancaja Aspar's Hector Faubel who superbly took 2.138s off his Friday time to leap up the gird from a provisional ninth in the first qualifying session.

Indeed most riders took a significant chunk off their Friday times with Skilled Racing Team's Simone Corsi improving by 1.166s to move up from fourth to third, while current World Championship leader Gabor Talmacsi slipped from provisional second to fourth on the grid as he could only improve by 0.605s.

Behind an Aprilia equipped front four, the second row of the grid on Sunday will consist of Valsir Seedorf Derbi's Lukas Pesek, Red Bull KTM 125's Tomoyoshi Koyama, Pasini's Polaris World team-mate Joan Olive and Ajo Motorsport's Michael Ranseder - who made up 2.154s from yesterday to jump from provisional 16th to an 8th place staring position for the third Grand Prix of the year.
