The Red Bull KTM rider's performances at the opening two races showed promise, but a series of misfortunes meant that he would have to wait until Turkey to cross the finish line. Ironically for the twice 125cc runner up, his first 250cc finish came at a track where he had never completed a Grand Prix whilst in the lower cylinder category.

Expected to be fighting with the championship leaders alongside fellow rookies Alvaro Bautista and Thomas Luthi, Kallio stuck with them en route to a top six placing. However, as the Finn explained to motogp.com, he didn't have it all easy.

"I am happy because it is my first full race in 250cc. I thought that I could even follow the first group after my form in qualifying, but on the first five laps I had a problem with the bike; it felt completely different until around the halfway point when my times improved. We have to work more on that," explained Kallio.

It had been rumoured that KTM would have new parts for their 250cc riders ahead of China, but Kallio does not think that any drastic changes will be made before the Asian visit.

"We'll see. I think that we can't improve so much for China, but certainly for the European rounds we'll be more prepared. There's still many races to go this season."
